Creation Story

Hi, I'm Alexa. Thanks for checking out my app 🙂

By day, I'm a product designer. By night, I'm learning to play the guitar.

I've always had a drawer full of ideas I couldn't build myself. My university degree was half computer science, half UX. I was good at the UX part. The computer science part mostly happened during very long TA office hours.

Earlier this year, I started learning guitar. I'd watch YouTube tutorials, feel great about it, and then forget everything a week later. I started writing songs, chords, and strumming patterns on my whiteboard, but I ran out of space fast.

I tried a bunch of existing guitar apps. Most of them were packed with features I didn't need and had way too many ads. I just wanted a simple, structured way to track the songs I was learning.

Using Claude Code, I spent one week building the first version of Fret Not. I was amazed seeing my ideas come to life as quickly as I was having them.

I was having so much fun building it that I figured: if this is useful for me, maybe it's useful for other people learning guitar too.

Now at version 1.4 (and counting), I'm having just as much fun building the app as I am learning to play the guitar.

Thank you for taking the time to use Fret Not and if you have ideas on how to make it better, I'm all ears.
